Current Research

I am currently preparing my history honors thesis, John Wesley Powell: All-American Explorer, Environmentalist, Eugenicist, completed through the University Scholars Program. I began the project as a seminar paper in Fall 2024, and it has turned into my full research project under the mentorship of Dr. Steven Noll.  My focus is on John Wesley Powell, explorer and geologist, as well as how he influenced American eugenic thought--though this has been ignored throughout history. This summer, I will be traveling to Washington D.C. to continue my research in various archives.

Additionally, I am preparing to write my geology honors thesis. I will be using the specimens in the Florida Natural History Museum collections to research predation on echinoids during the Eocene, and will be mentored by Roger Portell.

Past Research

I have also worked on other projects, including:

  • Independent research on geological research during the Civil War, funded by the National Science Foundation

  • A book written by Dr. Sean Adams about the Industrial Revolution targeted at a trade audience (to be published)

  •  A database of Eocene-epoch Mollusca in Florida

  • A book on Spotsylvania, Virginia, also written by Dr. Adams (to be published)

  • A paper on Ranilia Scotti, a new species of Eocene crab
