About Me

Hi! I'm Hannah, a history and geology undergraduate student at the University of Florida. I will be going into my third and final year this fall and expect to graduate in spring 2026. I specialize in environmental American history, with my current primary research being centered on John Wesley Powell. I have worked at a variety of institutions, including the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, the Institute for Youth in Policy, and the Florida Natural History Museum.

About Mapping Freedom

The Mapping Freedom in Civil War & Reconstruction Era Mississippi REU (Mapping Freedom REU) is an 8-week intensive research program hosted by the University of Southern Mississippi. It is the first digital humanities program funded by the National Science Foundation. This research experience aims to increase understanding in the fields of geography, digital humanities, and computer science.

Throughout the first six weeks, students will participate in a series of lectures pertaining to Civil War history, digital humanities, GIS, and related subjects. In the last two weeks, students will conduct their own research about Mississippi, utilizing the “Civil War & Reconstruction Governors of Mississippi” project dataset.
