Jackson Square in New Orleans. There is a statue of a man on a horse, with a church in the background.
New Orleans this past weekend.

3 Accomplishments

  1. I figured out how I will create my map and which information I will display. This primarily came from this week's lecture on Voyant.

  2. I made a plan for my paper! It will be longer than expected, but I was able to sort the letters into each section that I wanted.

  3. I created a 3-d model in class! It was harder than expected, but fun to play around with.

3 Things Preventing My Best Work

  1. I do not typically write my paper in order of section, nor do I write it over a period of time, so it has been difficult for me to make sure that every section is consistent.

  2. There are a few letters not from CWRGM that may be helpful for my research, but that are not digitized. I can do my research without them; it was just a disappointment.

  3. The report that I am using is over 400 pages, and tends to crash Voyant. It's annoying, but I have been looking into other ways of uploading the text without overloading the system.

3 Things I Learned This Week

  1. I learned how to utilize Voyant and Gephi, which will make analyzing the geologic reports much easier.

  2. I learned more about Mississippi Civil Rights history, which I did not know much about.

  3. I learned more about 3-d printing and LiDAR. It was an interesting contrast to using LiDAR in coastal morphology.

Next Action Step:

I would like to create the basis of my map in the upcoming week, as well as the first section (minimum) of my results.
